Going back to my roots ? Oldschool ? Hippy-shit ? No, I just like to create a ‘ landscape’ so every now and then. And yes, I made quite some birds-and-bees-works in the past.

The correct title of this collage is : ‘ Playing with sound and rhythm ( portret van Greg Osby ) ‘. Here I wanted to create a sparkling and alive surrounding, just like the music by G. Osby. By adding the text it’s possible to play around a little and make your own sentences in many different ways. This kind of using text is also a very common habit in the art of the DaDa movement and I also do it sometimes. When I cut all these little letters I allways have to think back to the punkie times and I get a smile on my face.

Although I was listening to the radio when putting this one together I also constantly heard ‘ Welcome to the machine ‘ by Pink Floyd in my head. There is a dark and moody atmosphere here which reminds of ‘1984′ by Orwell as well.

The famous old painters painted their still-life’s and I create and carefully put together my still-life’s. Here I wanted to place the assembled turntable-earphone in a surrealistic environment.

Just like musicians can sometimes play a cover I also like to do that sometimes with my collage’s. Here I used material by M.C Escher that i took out of these very famous yellow books containing Escher material to cut out and glue together to create all these wonderful objects. In this collage I did that with the utmost possible love and respect for mr Escher because he’s one of my all time favorite artists.

During the years of collage making I made a lot of works featuring musicians or having a theme or title which is related to music.
Some of the featured artists/bands are : Greg Osby, Marvin Gaye, U2, Miles Davis, James Brown, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Ian Curtis, Coleman Hawkins and Jimmy Smith.
Some titles : Black and white jazz, Black and blue jazz, Muziekmosaiek nr 1, 2 and 3, Music is the answer, Hey mr DJ, put a record on, All that Jazz, No title 1999 and 10 jaar Kink FM.
At the moment I’m selecting and framing the collage’s. The ones that I’m gonna show on the exhibition all get a aluminium frame and black passe-partout with white core.

Just a playful little ’still-life’ where the band and the composition of the background are important. The band is complete because the white figure hanging on the cross is mr John Bonham.

This collage is made on a real record sleeve and will be the ’soundtrack’ to my exhibition. It will probably be available as a limited, signed and numbered canvas-print in a while. Currently I’m preparing my exhibition which will be held at ” Sounds Recordstore” in Venlo somewhere in 2010. Exact dates will be given when confirmed.
